This coffee is produced by smallholder members of OCCICAFE (The Scociation de Productores de Cafe de Alta Calidad del Occidente del Huila) Co-operative from Inza, 35km away from La Planta, Huila. OCCICAFE was founded in 2003, and today the association has over 320 members from the municipalities of La Argentina, La Planta, Paicol, Nataga and Tesaaia. It’s members are smallholders whose farms range from 1 to 5 hectares.
The smallholders process their coffee, dry it on covered patios, then deliver their coffee to the OCCICAFE Lab where each lot is classified as commercial, regional, regional plus or microlot. Coffees that meet the regional plus standard need to cup above 85 points and the moisture content must be between 10-11%.
